Have We Crossed the Threshold? A Journey Beyond Borders, Identities and Languages
Applications open for the second edition of the Berlendis Venice Art Prize
Venice — Kosmos Contemporary Venice APS, in collaboration with Marignana Arte, presents the second edition of the Berlendis Venice Art Prize, an international open call for artists whose practice invites a reading of "crossing" as an aesthetic, political and existential act. A jury of professionals from the art world will select 20 finalists (10 for the Emergent section and 10 for the Contemporary section), who will have the opportunity to take part in a group exhibition at Spazio Berlendis, a 300 m² exhibition space located in the sestiere of Cannaregio, Venice. The exhibition, titled Have We Crossed the Threshold? A Journey Beyond Borders, Identities and Languages, will run from February 20 to March 21, 2027.
The deadline for submitting applications is September 24, 2026, at 11:59 PM, via the form available on the Spazio Berlendis website. The prizes consist of two cash awards — €1,000.00 (one thousand) euros for the Emergent section, and €2,500.00 (two thousand five hundred) euros for the Contemporary section. In addition, there are five special prizes, awarded among the 20 finalists: two solo exhibitions at Marignana Project — one per section — selected by Emanuela Fadalti and Matilde Cadenti; a group exhibition at Fondazione THE BANK ETS – Istituto per gli Studi sulla Pittura Contemporanea di Bassano del Grappa, chosen by Antonio Menon and Paolo Zanatta; a show at Galleria Alessandro Casciaro (Bolzano–Venice), selected by its director; and another at Spazio Magazzino, chosen by its curator Simone Ceschin.
The open call is addressed to visual artists of all ages and nationalities willing to interrogate the concept of "crossing" beyond a simple movement through physical space. The formats and media accepted for the call are painting, drawing, graphic work — engraving, lithography, screen printing, woodcutting and digital printing —, photography, collage, sculpture and installation, textile art and video art.
